Metal for Recycling will be collected in the Middletown Valley Bank parking lot off Washington Street in downtown Middletown. Your metals for recycling provides funds for Middletown Service Day projects and local charities. Cans, coat hangers, old hardware, wire (coated or not), pots and pans, pipe, chains, etc.
Electronics Recycling FREE – 9am until the vehicles are full
Electronics Recycling will be collected in the Middletown Valley Bank parking lot off Washington Street in downtown Middletown. WHAT IS ACCEPTED: ONLY Desktop computers (Working on Non-Working), Cell-Phones, Tablets, Laptops, Servers
Thanks for taking part in the Town’s 2024 Spring Tree Giveaway! As we get closer to the giveaway event, please be advised of the following:

TREE PICKUP: TREES WILL NEED TO BE PICKED UP SATURDAY, APRIL 20th BETWEEN 9AM AND 12PM AT THE PARKING LOT BEHIND THE MIDDLETOWN VALLEY BANK AT 28 WEST MAIN STREET. You will enter the parking lot via a driveway off Washington Street. The driveway is located halfway between the Main Cup parking lot and Jefferson Street. If you are unable to pick up your tree(s) during that time, please call Town Hall (301-371-6171) to make other arrangements.

The Middletown Sustainability Committee is hosting a Tree Planting Demonstration at 11am at the Green Expo being held on that Saturday, April 20th at Memorial Park. The Green Expo runs from 10am – 2pm and we encourage you to attend to learn all about various green initiatives.

Before planting your tree(s), please remember to submit a Utility Locate Request to MD Miss Utility, 1-week to 12-days before you dig. There are two easy ways to do this:

PLANT YOUR TREES PROMPTLY AND IN AN APPROPRIATE LOCATION: Please see the attached information from Potomac Edison about choosing the correct location for your tree(s). Plant your new tree(s) in the chosen location and water until the soil is damp. It will be very beneficial if you could also mulch your newly planted tree(s).

TAKE A PICTURE OF YOUR PLANTED TREE(S): After planting, please take a picture of your tree(s) and email to Town Hall, at greenteam@ci.middletown.md.us along with your street address. This is very important! We need to claim the trees you planted towards our EPA Stormwater Permit. Failure to forward a picture of your planted tree(s) may result in being disqualified from future tree giveaway events. If you are unable to forward pictures, please notify Town Hall and staff will arrange a date/time to take pictures of your planting(s).

HOUSEHOLDS ABSENT DURING DELIVERY: For households that notify Town Hall before next Saturday’s delivery event, that you will not be available to pick up your tree orders, please contact Town Hall to schedule a time to pick them up. Please respond by Friday, the 19th, before 12PM.

HOUSEHOLDS REQUESTING ASSISTANCE: For some of the households who requested assistance with planting, please contact Cindy Unangst at 301-371-6171 to schedule a date and time for staff or Green Team members to come and help you plant your tree(s). In the meantime, please remember to water your trees. The soil should be moist, but not soggy. We welcome help from others who are interested in helping out their neighbors with their tree planting needs. Please let me know if you are interested in and able to help out.

ARBOR DAY PLANTING EVENT: It will be taking place on Friday, April 26th at Remsberg Park beginning with an Arbor Day Proclamation at 1pm. Volunteers from Potomac Edison and other local companies will be joining us, and we should be done by 3pm. The holes for the tree planting on town-owned property will be pre-dug so the volunteers will just need to put the trees in the holes and put the soil back in the hole, and then mulch and stake the trees.

Forest Therapy Walk & Nature Immersion with Julie Kaus, Forest Therapy Guide

Park and meet at the Middletown Primary School parking lot
Julie Kaus will guide participants in a nature immersion along the lower walking trail of Remsberg Park (across from the Primary School). Come for a sensory-filled meander to slow down, get quiet and let the ‘more than human world’ be your guide. Included in this adventure: a slow walk, invitations for engaging the senses and noticing our surroundings, nature meditation, and tea ritual. This nature immersion is designed for adults. Older children are welcome with parents.

Welcome to our Fifth Annual Middletown Green Expo! We sure wish we could be together in person, but due to the pandemic we are having a Virtual Green Expo this year! Our Green Expo events bring together many diverse organizations and businesses that inspire residents to Go Green along with teaching them how to do just that.

The Middletown United Methodist Church (MUMC) Creation Care ~ Climate Justice group has been active for over five years. We have had numerous well attended education and advocacy events that have included the wider community. We have a Facebook page which in its way documents what we have been up to. We represent MUMC to the broader community for example when we participate in the annual Middletown Earth Day gathering known as Green Expo. We partner with the Multi-faith Alliance of Climate Stewards (MACS) of Frederick County. Our work is in alignment with the United Methodist Social Principles and God's call on us to love His Very Good Creation and Care for it, to be good stewards, and to be in awe and wonder of it.

Bay-Wise Landscape Certification
The Frederick County Master Gardeners are volunteer representatives of the University of Maryland Extension (UME). Their goal is to extend the services, programs and expertise of the UME to the general public. They base their knowledge on their own experience as gardeners, as well as classroom and hands-on training provided by the UME and University of Maryland horticultural educators.

What you do in your yard can help restore the health of local waterways and the Chesapeake Bay! The goal of Bay-Wise gardening is to ensure better water quality through smart gardening practices. Members of their Bay-Wise Committee educate the public about how to create a sustainable landscape that supports birds, pollinators and other wildlife – using native plants, reducing or eliminating use of chemicals, mowing and fertilizing wisely, creating rain gardens and other features that slow storm water runoff, and composting yard waste.
